Marc Raibert and Boston Dynamics, Inc.

Boston Dynamics, Inc. is an engineering company that specializes in human simulation and robotics. Its customers have applications that range from simulation-based training to physics-based virtual prototyping to military robotics. Its well-known DI-guy applications have included lift helicopter training, the modeling of counter-terrorism operations, 3D simulation for urban planning, nuclear powerplant simulation, and many others. The company began as a spin-off of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Their groundbreaking work inspired the launch of Boston Dynamics, Inc. in 1992. Raibert was Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT and a member of the Artificial Intelligence Lab there until 1993. Previously he was Associate Professor in Computer Science and the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where he founded the Leg Laboratory in 1980.
