Gecko running on water in the wild. Slowed down to 1/15th of the original speed, a house gecko is filmed in the wild running across water to reach a tree.

Supplementary Movie 2 MovieS2
Gecko running on water – sagittal view. Video shows a house gecko displaying the water running behavior. The head and body are held high above the water and the limbs fully exit the water. Air cavities are formed by the limbs as they push through the water.

Supplementary Movie 3 MovieS3
Gecko moving in soap and water mixture – sagittal view. Geckos moving through a soap and water mixture move at a slower velocity than when in a water only condition. Note the lower head and limb heights as well as how low the body sits in the water.

Video S4. Gecko running on water – dorsal view. Features of traditional swimming are maintained in the geckos’ surface gait. As geckos run on water they continue to undulate their bodies. The posterior body and tail undulate to create forward thrust for the geckos.

Video S5. Gecko moving in soap and water mixture – dorsal view. Geckos continue to exhibit the same undulating motion shown when moving in water as when they move through the soap and water mixture.
